Looking for a Marketing Consultant in Canada? Here's What Working With One Actually Looks Like

There's no shortage of marketers online. Everyone has a course, a framework, a five-step system that promises to transform your business. So if you've landed here trying to figure out whether hiring a marketing consultant is worth it — and whether I'm the right one — I want to skip the fluff and just tell you what I actually do, who I work best with and what you can expect if we work together.

A Bit About Me

becca grieb marketing consultant

Hi, I'm Becca Grieb! I’m a consultant and fractional marketing leader based in Ontario, Canada. I've spent years working inside brands and alongside founders, helping them build marketing strategies that are grounded in real business goals rather than vanity metrics and trend-chasing. Most of the clients I work with are in the eCommerce and SaaS space across a variety of industries including construction, healthcare, food/beverage and apparel.

My background spans performance + growth, paid and organic social, email marketing, customer retention, and brand positioning. I started my career ghost writing for one of Canada’s tech execs and bring that background in brand journalism to the digital marketing work I do today. I've worked with businesses at different stages — from scrappy startups trying to find their first audience to established brands looking to scale past a plateau — and what I've learned is that the problems usually aren't what they first appear to be.

A brand might think they have a traffic problem when they actually have a conversion problem. They might think they have a content problem when they actually have a clarity problem — they haven't defined who they're talking to or what makes them different. They might be getting started and are tackling everything at once, needing additional support on strategy and execution.

Good marketing consulting isn't about throwing tactics at a wall. It's about diagnosing what's actually going on and building a strategy that addresses the real issue.

That's the kind of work I do.

Who I Work With

My sweet spot is eCommerce and SaaS, and I love working with Canadian brands that are growing but feeling like their marketing is scattered, inconsistent, or just not producing the results expected.

Are we a good fit for each other? It might be a good fit if:

You're a founder or small business owner who wears a lot of hats and doesn't have the bandwidth to build a cohesive marketing strategy on top of everything else you're managing. You know marketing matters, but you don't have the time or the expertise to do it well — and you're tired of making it up as you go.

You're at a growth inflection point — maybe you've hit some early traction and you're trying to figure out how to scale what's working, or you've plateaued and you're not sure why. You need an outside perspective from someone who can look at your full marketing picture without any of the internal blind spots.

You've worked with agencies before and felt like you got a generic strategy that didn't really fit your business. You want someone who will actually learn your brand, ask the hard questions, and give you recommendations that are specific to your situation — not a template with your logo on it.

You care about the long game.

If any of that sounds like you, keep reading.

What I Offer

Marketing Strategy & Consulting

This is the core of what I do. We start by taking a clear-eyed look at where your marketing stands today — what's working, what's not, and where the biggest opportunities are. From there, I help you build a strategy that connects your marketing activity to real business outcomes: revenue, customer acquisition, retention, and growth.

This isn't a generic deliverable. It's a working strategy built around your specific brand, your specific audience, and your specific goals. You'll leave with clarity on who you're targeting, what you're saying to them, which channels you should be focused on, and how to measure whether it's working.

Customer Journey Mapping & Audit

One of the most valuable things you can do for your ecommerce business is understand exactly what it feels like to be a customer discovering your brand for the first time. I map your full customer journey — from awareness through to advocacy — and audit every touchpoint along the way.

Where are people dropping off? What messages are you sending at the wrong stage? Where are the gaps that are costing you conversions and repeat purchases? This work tends to unlock a lot of quick wins and gives you a blueprint for where to focus your marketing energy.

Email Marketing Strategy

Email is consistently one of the highest-ROI channels for ecommerce, and most brands aren't using it nearly as well as they could be. I help brands build email programs that actually drive revenue — from foundational flows like welcome sequences, abandoned cart, and post-purchase, to ongoing campaign strategy and list health.

If you're sitting on an email list that you're not fully leveraging, or you're sending campaigns that feel disconnected from your overall brand experience, this is an area where the right strategy can make a significant difference quickly.

Social Media & Content Strategy

Social media works best when it's built around a clear point of view and a genuine understanding of your audience. I help brands develop content strategies that are sustainable, intentional, and actually aligned with how their customers use social — rather than trying to be everywhere at once without a plan.

This includes channel selection (because not every brand needs to be on every platform), content pillars, messaging frameworks, and how your organic social strategy connects to the rest of your marketing.

One-Time Consultations & Strategy Sessions

Not every business needs ongoing consulting. Sometimes you just need a focused session with someone who can help you think through a specific challenge, pressure-test a decision, or give you a clear direction forward.

I offer one-time strategy sessions for founders and marketing teams who want expert input without a long-term commitment. These are great if you're at a specific crossroads — launching a new product, planning a campaign, rethinking your positioning, or trying to figure out why your marketing isn't converting the way it should.

Why Work With a Canadian Marketing Consultant?

It matters more than you might think. Canadian ecommerce brands operate in a distinct market — one with its own consumer behaviour patterns, regulatory considerations, shipping realities, and competitive landscape. The nuances of marketing to Canadian consumers across different regions, the bilingual considerations for brands with Quebec audiences, the reality of cross-border competition with US brands — these aren't things you want to figure out on the fly.

Working with someone who understands the Canadian market means you're not getting advice that was built for a US audience and loosely adapted for yours. You're getting strategy that accounts for where your customers actually are and how they actually shop.

What Working Together Looks Like

I believe in getting to know your business before I make any recommendations. That means asking a lot of questions, listening carefully, and resisting the urge to jump to solutions before I understand the problem. Some consultants come in with a predetermined playbook. I come in curious.

Every engagement starts with a conversation — no pressure, no pitch, just a genuine discussion about where your business is, what you're trying to accomplish, and whether I'm the right person to help you get there. If I don't think I'm the right fit, I'll tell you. I'd rather point you in the right direction than take on a project that isn't well-suited to what I do.

If it feels like a good match, we'll talk through scope, timeline, and investment — and then we get to work.

Ready to Talk?
